Here we see a complete Dughwede funnel pot waiting to be decorated. Unfortunately the pot started to collapse along a vertical crack in the body of the pot. This confirms how difficult it is to make a funnel pot with a small opening. The pot is coiled up very high before the neck is welded on and the funnel built on top. Both might put extra stress on the belly which is where our pot became weak.

As already mentioned, funnel pots with narrow throats are ritual beer vessels for men but they are not in demand anymore. Traditional men now prefer funnel pots with big openings which, in the past, were only for women. It is not so difficult to fill them with beer and the pouring of the beer is somehow easier and faster. The preservational aspect of keeping the ritual beer fresh for several days has also become much less important.
